Billing, Policy, and Faqs

"Clearly, freelancing is not only a way of working, it's a way of thinking. Learning to cope in the land of no benefits, no set pay check, and no retirement plan works these people's imagination like a muscle. And a pumped imagination, they say, is their trump card."
-- N. Killiham, The Washington Post, May 23, 1989

Signed Contracts
All projects require a signed contract. To see a generic contract, which can be tailored to include specifics about your project, just drop me an email.

Time Frame
Turn around time depends on the length and complexity of your project. Rush assignments cost more.

  • Small projects, between 1 and 20 pages, require 3 to 14 days to complete, unless otherwise stated or agreed upon.
  • Larger projects, especially those requiring extensive research and interviews require more time, usually 21 to 32 days to complete.
  • Book length projects require months to complete, often resulting in the delivery of a single chapter at a time, within an agreed upon time frame.
No Refunds
The time I devote to a project is unrecoverable, therefore there are no refunds for any work performed. But don't worry! I work on a close basis with my clients to make sure that every project is developed according to his or her satisfaction. And all projects come with two edits.

Canceling Projects
Once I have begun work on the project, any down payments are non-refundable. While you are welcome to end our contract at any time, you will be held liable for payments of any work done up to the point that our contract ends. If you decide to cancel a project, for any reason, after it has been started you will be billed for any unpaid hours and/or expenses that I have incurred up to that point.

Ghostwriting Rights
Hiring me as a ghostwriter means that you are paying for "full rights" or "all rights" to the articles I write for you. These are not "private label rights" in which I write a generalized article that gets distributed to several people and can later be tweaked or used as-is with your byline. The articles I write for you are "original" and written to your specifications and requirements.

Purchasing all rights to an article means that the same article cannot be sold to another client. It entitles you to ownership of the article. You own current and future publishing rights and do not have to compensate me to publish the content in more than one place. It also means you can claim authorship of the article. You have not, however, purchased the rights to the subject or the research materials which means I can write on this topic for other paying clients.

Outside My Work Ethics
I will not work on, promote, nor encourage the following: adult, alcohol, drugs, gambling, nudity, occult, profanity, sexual products, violence, weapons, or religious material that is against my religious beliefs.

PROJECT FEES
I prefer to work on a word count basis. However, I am willing to work on a per hour schedule if you decide that's in your best interest.

Per Word Fees
If you pay by the word, you are allowed two edits. After which, any revisions/edits will be billed at the hourly rate.

Per Hour Fees
Per hour fees are billable minutes/hours in which I work on your project. That includes, but not limited to, physical meetings, conference calls (phone, email, or instant messenger) as well as any study, background reading, and research time pertaining to work on your project. Hourly rates are billable in 15 minute increments, with a minimum of one paid hour.

NO GUARANTEES
A web copywriter, freelance writer, or search engine optimizer cannot guarantee article acceptance, first place ranking, increased traffic, or increased sales; therefore, I will not make that statement. There are many factors that work together to help your business campaign reach success and I don't have control over anything but the project I work on.

Having a budget to write your web copy or produce your marketing materials is only the first step. You must also have the budget to market your business―to let others know about your company by using traditional marketing methods, such as those mentioned below.

It is not my responsibility to find you sales or bring traffic to your business. It is my responsibility to build a functional tool that helps you sell your product or service.

You will still have to focus on traditional marketing tactics, such as cold calling, advertising in print, getting media coverage, and so on―all of which are the responsibility of the web owner.

Thank you for stopping by and considering my services.
